you can do the thing

Quite honestly, this week has been kind of rough for me so far. After an awesome weekend, it was difficult to get back into the swing of things and I definitely felt my anxiety flare up a bit. I am the first to admit that I am prone to stressing — my famous family quote growing up was always, “I’m a little bit nervous” — but with so many new things on the horizon, I think my subconscious anxiousness got the better of me. Naturally I turned to my sister for support. Julia has helped me through countless anxiety issues in the past and her best remedy has always been sending my the most adorable pictures (and hilarious pins!). On Monday Julia sent me this photo:

thing

Is it not the best?! Honestly, it cheered me right up and whenever I feel my adrenaline picking up again, I just take a quick peek at it on my phone. I am so lucky to have such supportive friends and family by my side during this time of so many changes. Thanks again, Juju!

work & play

work & playFor me, shopping is a lot like hunger; if I eat something, I’m not hungry for a little while, but inevitably the feeling always comes back. If I purchase something, I’m alright for some time, but then the need comes back with a vengeance. I haven’t gone shopping in a longgg time (unless you count buying shampoo and conditioner… the 99 cent kind, mind you) simply because my bank account refuses to accumulate any kind of savings above a certain amount (weekly toiletry runs and gas tank refills wipeout what little I’ve made each week in a heart beat). But recently I’ve come into some cash (from my award ceremony a few weekends ago — yay for cash prizes!) and I’m planning on using it this Friday with my little sister on an outlet shopping extravaganza! Memorial Day deals? Count me in! My wish list includes casual wear items for the few weeks of summer that I do have off as well as some business attire for what will soon be my entire life. Regardless of what I will be buying this weekend, I can’t wait!!

mid-week

Let’s just say there’s nothing like some fashion inspiration to get a girl through the middle of the week. I swear, between Bloglovin‘ and Pinterest, I have all the escape I need sometimes! Here are a few lovely ladies that are keeping my fashion frenzy fueled:

1

How cute is Cait of Southern Curls & Pearls? And can we please talk about those jeans?!? NEED THEM NOW.

3

Emily of The Sweetest Thing is just stunning and I love how she’s pulling off neon with such a classic silhouette here. Definitely can picture myself walking down the streets of Manhattan wearing something like this come summer…

2

I wish I had a sailing trip on my horizon, because this flow-y cover-up is just too wonderful! Thank you, Julia of Gal Meets Glam, for sharing this!

4

I think Kate Spade can literally do no wrong. This simple monogrammed necklace would be great for layering or alone!

Although I like Carly’s outfit here, it’s really her hair that I’m lusting after. Usually I’m one to notice how someone’s hair is styled over anything else, but here I am seriously crushing on that color! Does she dye it? Should I dye mine??

Happy Wednesday, dear readers! How are you amping up your outfits to get through the week?

cookies & cream

cookies&cream

I’m always down for a delicious recipe and if it includes chocolate? Then definitely count me in! The other day I was scrolling through Pinterest and stumbled upon this amazing cookies & cream frozen hot chocolate recipe. Perfect hot chocolate twist for the spring time (yes, my fingers are still crossed for this warmer weather that will be here any day now)? YES and YUM! Can’t wait to try it out, plus it fulfills two of my college student recipe requirements: cheap and easy!

with a cherry on top

Can it please just be spring already!? I am officially sick of this weather. I need to wear Jack Rogers and ripped jeans and light coats ASAP or else I think I might lose my mind. I’m not even asking for warm weather — just enough to get out of my uniform of snow boots, a fuzzy Patagonia, and my ginormous puffy jacket. I am starting to feel like a bum and it is seriously affecting my mood. As I singularly hold a sit-in in protest of this disgusting (and never-ending) weather I turn to trusty Pinterest as my salvation…

dogeared

With exactly two weeks left until Valentine’s Day it’s time to start thinking about a girl’s favorite thing: gifts! I’m sure you’ve seen Dogeared before, but ever since I went on a Nordstrom online window shopping binge (it’s a thing) the adorably chic line of jewelry has shot straight up to the top of my lust list. These necklaces and earrings would look great solo or layered with other gifts from your sweetheart!

What are you hoping to get from your hubby this V-Day?

sweet & cinnamon-y

sweet & cinnamon-y

The other day I went on a Pinterest binge looking at recipes (check out by newest board ironically titled “hungry hungry caterpillar” for all of my delicious finds). I am not as much of a cook as I would like to be (although I try here, here, here, here and here), but I am certainly a lover of food and would like to try cooking a lot more. During my hours of mindless searching (when study breaks outweigh study time…oops!) I was inspired to create a breakfast experiment of my own. I tried the combo the next morning and it was remarkably delicious! For a sweet and cinnamon-y surprise, try the following:

Prep Time: 10 min (mostly due to seeding the pomegranate)

Ingredients:

– Non-fat plain Greek yogurt

– 1/2 cup fresh pomegranate seeds

– 1 tsp ground cinnamon

– a pinch of dry, unused coffee grounds

Directions: Cut and seed the pomegranate. About half of the pomegranate will yield a healthy number of the sour seeds. Add pomegranate seeds, cinnamon, and coffee grounds to yogurt. Mix and enjoy!

breakfast

This was such a delicious breakfast, and something with tons of potential in terms of other creative combinations. I especially enjoyed the addition of the coffee grounds because it added a different, almost chocolatey flavor to the mix. I could also imagine making this same meal with yogurt, coconut shavings, vanilla powder, and cocoa powder for an even sweeter treat, or with yogurt, a little olive oil, small heirloom tomatoes, and fresh basil for a simple lunch-time version. How would you put a spin on this sweet snack?
