julie and julia

The other day I re-watched Julia and Julia. I really love that movie. Something about seeing people so passionate about what they are doing really speaks to me. I was always jealous of friends growing up who absolutely knew for certain that the wanted to be X, Y, or Z. I always felt like I was just tumbling through life without a real goal in mind. While I have some short-term and medium-term and probably even some long-terms goals, I don’t have any over-arching passion that’s driving my life. At least not one that I am aware of! There’s something so beautiful about having a calling in life… guess time will tell for me!

my week in photos

I can’t believe I’ve been in Cali for nearly two weeks now! Where has the time gone?! Here’s a little photo montage to give you a better picture (hehehe) of what my past week has looked like:

The Boy and I went to Muir Woods to check out the giant red wood trees. It was absolutely incredible and I wish we had had more time to explore the park!

I treated myself to a new Lululemon top (see here). Words can’t even begin to  describe the attention to detail or how much I love it.

We ventured into the city to visit a friend from Union who was in town for a geology conference. We really only drove through, but I am looking forward to exploring more next week with my sister.

Got a beautiful shot of the Golden Gate from a great look-out to the north.

The Boy and I are taking full advantage of Union extensive winter break (read: 6 weeks what whatttt) and reconnecting with our childhood roots. I was creating a house out of Legos when the cat stepped in and decided to add his own touches.

On Wednesday we drove 6 and a half hours down the state of California to visit my sister at Caltech! Here she is with the beautiful boys.

I had the most incredible Waffle Chicken Salad for lunch at Caltech‘s faculty club, The Athenaeum — “a buckwheat waffle made with pumpkin seeds and dried cranberries, topped with frisee, apple, crispy chicken, goat cheese and maple vinaigrette” — that’s one equation that equals YUM.

The Boy enjoyed exploring the Caltech campus and seeing all of the neat scientific displays, including this artwork representing 4D space.

IMG_0139Julia took a glamour pose near J. J. Thompson’s original cathode ray tube — BIG DEAL!

yoga bunny

Anyone else feeling tense from too much holiday shopping or too many hours spent traveling? Yoga is your redemption, my friend. I swear by my trusty yoga DVDs, but I have been looking for some more yoga outlets as I get bored of doing the same exact thing time and time again. I am not in one place long enough right now to sign up for a class or anything, but I think things like the cute little sequence above will get me through for now. Simply hold each of the above poses for 10 seconds (or about three breaths) and then move onto the next one. Repeat as many times as it takes to finally get all of the kinks out of your back! Anyone else have any good DIY yoga tips or recommendations?

tis the season

mint chocolate

Tis the season for delicious scents! I popped into Bath and Body Works the other week to redeem an awesome candle-with-purchase coupon. I chose this adorable mint chocolate scented candle as my free-be and oh how glad I am that I did! It smells absolutely scrumptious and I love lighting it when I am doing my makeup or reading or blogging! If I had the money, I would buy countless candles for every and any occasion. (My dream is still to someday own one of these).

idk how

Having “borrowed” The Boy’s Netflix account, I’ve been watching a lot of movies recently. Last week I re-watched “I Don’t Know How She Does It” with Sarah Jessica Parker. The movie hit home even more this second time around as I now know that I will be headed into that crazy world of banking. SJP’s life is a little further from mine in that movie seeing that she has a family and kids, but it was interesting to watch and think about what my life might look like in the future. Will my relationships suffer because of my job? Will I be able to hold it all together? Will I be happy? I know there’s no such thing as a guarantee, but I really wish there was a how-to book for the next stage of my life. Anyone have any tips? Any other good work/life movie or book recommendations out there?

fried eggs

fried egg

The other day I cooked my first fried egg. I know. Who am I? With real life just a few short months away for me, I thought it was about time that I began racking up some real culinary skills. Now, I know a fried egg is nothing to write home about (although, in my book that’s pretty tempting), but I think it’s certainly a step in the right direction! I don’t know if I will have any much time to cook when I begin working, but I really want to make a point of it. Time to add some cookware sets to the wish list??

sleep in san francisco

sanfran

I’ve been in California for approximately 48 hours and I’m afraid to admit that I’ve spent a great deal of that time asleep. I don’t know what it is (reverse jet lag?), but I’ve been totally wiped out! Of course, I’ve had many good meals, watched a few movies, and caught up with The Boy’s family — all of which has been wonderful. I’m just so happy to be here and be taking it easy and really using this vacation time as vacation time. When I first visited NorCal I honestly thought I would hate it. It was so foreign to me and I thought it would be super rainy and cloudy and flaky. But, I was proved wrong! I loveeee this area and could definitely see myself here sometime in the near/far future. Everyone is so active and friendly and there’s not a snow flake in the sky!! This weekend I will be catching up with some other friends from school, bop around the city, and (of course) just keep relaxing away! What are your weekend plans??
